Stay with an existing mold
Use color, decoration, resin or a compatible closure to differentiate a proven bottle while reducing development work.
A factory can quote accurately only when the bottle, closure, decoration, quantity and delivery plan are treated as one package.
Send one photo and an approximate annual quantity to begin.
The bottle shape is only one part of the specification. Tell the supplier what will be filled, how the customer should dispense it, whether the package will travel, and what filling or capping equipment the contract manufacturer uses. A lotion pump, fine-mist sprayer, dropper and simple screw cap create different requirements even when the bottle capacity is identical.
If you do not know the resin or neck finish, describe the performance target instead: clear or opaque, rigid or squeezable, premium weight or lightweight, controlled dose or rapid pour. That gives the engineering team a useful starting point without forcing an incorrect specification.
An existing factory format usually reduces development work because its basic geometry and mold path already exist. It still requires confirmation of material, closure fit, color, decoration and production availability. A proprietary shape adds tooling, drawing approval, sample iterations and additional schedule risk, but can create stronger brand ownership.
A buyer can begin custom development with a photo, hand sketch, 3D file or physical sample. The factory should convert the idea into a controlled drawing and identify draft angles, wall construction, parting lines, neck geometry and decoration limits before tooling is approved.
Neck-finish names are useful, but they do not guarantee that every pump or cap will perform correctly. Thread engagement, liner or plug geometry, dip-tube length, actuator output and component tolerances matter. Formula compatibility, leakage, shipping orientation and the contract manufacturer's line setup should be reviewed with physical components.
Approve resin color and decoration on representative samples. Transparent materials, molded colors, silk screen, hot stamping and labels can look different under retail lighting and may behave differently on curved or recessed surfaces.
The written quote should identify the product reference or drawing revision, material stack, closure, decoration, assembly, packing method, minimum order, tooling charge when applicable, sample path, production timing and shipment term. FOB China and delivered-to-U.S. pricing answer different questions, so the destination and freight responsibility must be explicit.
For repeat programs, share annual demand and release cadence. That lets the supplier discuss carton quantities, production planning, component purchasing and whether a larger run or phased releases make commercial sense.
Custom moulding can establish a proprietary silhouette or functional component, but the tooling route should be justified by the forecast, performance target and launch schedule.
Use color, decoration, resin or a compatible closure to differentiate a proven bottle while reducing development work.
Develop a proprietary cap, overcap, shoulder or accessory around an existing bottle when that change carries the brand or function.
Coordinate bottle and closure geometry, drawings, cavities, first-off samples, approval tests, ownership and production release.
BottleMarkets can start from a catalog reference, photo, drawing or physical sample and identify the missing decisions before requesting production pricing.
Choose a reference bottle or send your own photo or drawing. We will review product fit, minimum order, sample options and the information needed for a factory quote.
Attach one bottle photo and include the approximate quantity. We will identify the missing details before asking the factory to quote.
